A 28-year-old California woman has received a sentence of 15 years to life in prison for a fatal car accident that happened in 2011. The charges were second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter with intoxication and evading charges.
A 19-year-old man from El Monte was killed in accident along the 210 Freeway around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, when a vehicle headed the wrong way struck another car. A Honda sedan was going eastbound when it collided in a head-on crash with a Nissan. Authorities said that the operator of the Nissan was declared dead on the scene. A 16-year-old female passenger, who police said was identified as the girlfriend of the man who was killed, suffered injuries due to the accident.
On Aug. 4, a 34-year-old man was killed after being involved in a five-car crash along southbound Interstate 405. The accident reportedly occurred during rush-hour traffic in Irvine and resulted in three other people being treated for minor injuries at local hospitals. According to the Orange County Coroner's Office, the man who was killed was first treated for traumatic injuries at Western Medical Center before he was pronounced dead later that day.
A two-car accident on July 26 resulted in the death of two people and injuries for two others, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol. The car accident happened southeast of Delano when two cars collided at an intersection around 10:55 a.m. After conducting an initial investigation, police did not believe that alcohol or drugs were factors in the fatal car crash.
