The San Diego Fire and Rescue Department and local police officers were on the scene of an injury accident in the community of City Heights on Oct. 22. At about 10:30 a.m., a Nissan pickup truck traveling north on 54th Street proceeded through a red light and struck a Prius that had been heading east on University Avenue.
California motorists may benefit from reviewing some of the most recent traffic safety data published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to the NHTSA, during 2012, California realized the second-highest motor-vehicle fatality total of any state in the country, trailing only Texas. The 2,857 people who died in California from car accidents during 2012 represents a 1.5 percent increase from 2011. In Texas, nearly 3,400 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents during 2012.
One person died and four people suffered serious injuries in a California car accident on Oct. 4. The accident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on DeSoto Avenue near Roscoe Boulevard in Canoga Park when a car crashed through a doughnut shop.
On September 28, a Fresno County accident claimed the life of one person and left five others injured. One of the drivers involved in the incident faces drunk-driving charges, highway officials said.
A 50-year-old man was killed in a Sept. 19 crash involving two tractor-trailers that collided head-on. This Round Mountain accident also injured three people, authorities stated.
