Alleged DUI accident injures 11 in Southern California

A 28-year-old man with a history of drunk driving caused a Dec. 14 accident in Alhambra that involved 13 other people, officials said. The incident reportedly happened around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Poplar Boulevard and Fremont Avenue, where several pedestrians were admiring Christmas lights.

Police indicated that the 28-year-old man was traveling north in a truck when he crossed the roadway's solid yellow line into the southbound lanes, where his truck hit two vehicles that were parked yet occupied on the side of the roadway. The impact of the collision propelled a parked vehicle into the group of pedestrians, authorities said. Emergency personnel took 11 people to a hospital in response to the event. One of the hospitalized individuals suffered serious injuries and was still in intensive care the following day, authorities reported. Yet, officials said they expect everyone involved in the accident will recover.

Police detained the 28-year-old truck driver on suspicion of DUI. Court records reportedly indicate that the man was driving on a revoked driver's license at the time of the crash. His license had been suspended for a drunk-driving conviction in relation to a 2013 car accident.

Thousands of drunk-driving accidents occur in the United States every year. Due to the reckless nature of such crashes, the ramifications are often catastrophic or ultimately fatal. In any event, being victimized by such an accident can also be wildly expensive, especially if the victim's injuries forced the victim to miss time from work. This kind of financial turmoil coupled with substantial evidence that impairment played a role in the crash may make for a tenable personal injury claim. This type of lawsuit is filed in civil court with the help of legal counsel.
