Pacific Coast Highway accident kills 3

The California Highway Patrol said on March 17 that a violent traffic accident on Pacific Coast Highway sliced one of the vehicles in half and killed three people. The crash happened not long after midnight near Point Mugu in Ventura County.

According to a Ventura County Fire Department dispatcher and CHP, a Mercedes traveling north was speeding when the driver lost control. The Mercedes started spinning and then hit a southbound vehicle head-on in the southbound lanes. The collision cut the Mercedes in half, sending the rear of the vehicle near the rocks. Due to the split Mercedes, it was initially believed that three vehicles were involved in the crash.

Partially ejected, the driver of the Mercedes died in the crash along with the driver and a passenger of the southbound vehicle. Fire officials determined the fatalities on the scene, but authorities did not identify the victims. The U.S. Coast Guard searched along the coast for additional victims, and a coroner's investigator arrived on the scene. The Ventura County Station for the CHP is handling the investigation.

When fatal accidents happen, the immediate family members of the deceased may inquire from police who is responsible for causing the crashes so that they can exercise their rights to file wrongful death lawsuits. When speeding is ruled a contributing factor in a traffic collision, the driver who was speeding is likely to be held accountable. If that individual is one of the people who died, the estate could be held liable.

Family members who file wrongful death claims could ask lawyers to help them navigate the process of proving why they are entitled. The lawyer might also help them determine how much they should receive in compensation.
