One person was killed and five more were injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in San Fernando Valley on April 17. The accident happened around 6:40 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The intersection of Collins Street and Reseda Boulevard in Tarzana was closed for hours after two people died in a collision between a motorcycle and Honda sedan. Los Angeles police said that the motorcycle hit the driver's side of the car.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a hit-and-run driver was responsible for the death of a motorcyclist on April 2. At around 5:50 p.m., a 53-year-old man was struck by an SUV while he was riding his motorcycle along southbound Highway 101 in San Mateo. A witness to the accident said that the SUV driver stopped for a moment and got out of the vehicle before driving off.
An average of 500,000 injuries and 10,000 deaths occur every year because of alcohol-related car accidents. According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, which used NHTSA data from 2001 to 2011, an increase in state alcohol taxes could prevent thousands of such accidents in California and across the United States.
