Driving is such a common element of our everyday lives that it's easy to forget just how dangerous it can be to get behind the wheel of a vehicle. One driver learned this the hard way recently when he began exhibiting erratic behavior and crashing his car into two other vehicles before ultimately colliding with a the concrete base of a light pole. The impact with the light pole sent debris flying, some of which struck nearby pedestrians.
Factors that may have influenced this behavior remain unconfirmed, but statements from police who investigated the accident indicate that they do not believe that the man intended to injury the students who were stuck by the debris. Unfortunately, both the driver and one of the pedestrians were left with serious injuries.
For his part, the driver suffered several injuries in the crash, including some severe burns that occurred when the vehicle burst into flames after colliding into the concrete base. The four pedestrian students, whose ages ranged from 14 to 17 years old, all suffered injuries from both the flying debris from the crashed vehicle, as well as falling debris from the street light that shattered in the impact. Furthermore, one of the students was seriously injured by being struck by both the vehicle and flying debris, resulting in him being rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.
Even though this particular story is still developing, it has already gathered its share of victims, from the driver to the other vehicles sustaining damage, as well as the pedestrians. It serves as a harsh reminder that car accidents can occur just about anywhere. If you have been involved in an injury accident, the representation of an experienced lawyer can help ensure that your rights remain protected as you pursue justice.
