2 men killed on San Bernardino roadways on Mother's Day

Two different accidents that occurred just a mere two miles apart from one another within a short two-hour window claimed the lives of two San Bernardino men early on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017. One of the fatal accidents involved a bicyclist being struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. The other involved one vehicle striking another.

As for the first fatal accident of the night, it occurred at the intersection of Lynwood and Del Rosa Avenues at around 1:00 a.m. The decedent, a 34-year-old man, was driving northbound along Del Rosa in his Audi A4 when another vehicle, an Kia Forte, traveling in the opposite direction, collided with him headon.

The man was transported by paramedics from the crash scene to Loma Linda University Medical Center. Despite doctors' efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries about an hour later. California Highway Patrol (CHP) continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

In the second fatal accident that same night, a 52-year-old bicyclist, was struck and killed as he rode his bike along 39th Street at 2:45 a.m. The man's bike was struck from behind as he was riding westbound along the 1100 block's curb line.

The impact of the crash ultimately resulted in the man being thrown from off his bike. It's believed that he died instantly from the injuries he suffered.

Although the party believed to be responsible for the accident fled the scene after striking the man, police have determined that that individual might have been driving a dark colored Toyota Yaris at the time. That unidentified driver remains at large.

Whether it's because there are more drivers on the roadways, increased alcohol consumption or some other factor is to blame, holidays tend to be the occasion on which the lion's share of fatal accidents tend to occur. If your loved one has lost his or her life in a car accident due to the negligence of another, then a San Bernardino car accident attorney can advise you as to your right to file a wrongful death claim.
