Soon-to-be married Bakersfield couple struck, killed by semi

A 33-year-old husband-to-be and his soon-to-be 31-year-old bride were killed just a few weeks ahead of their wedding. On the afternoon of Friday, July 7, 2017, the Bakersfield couple was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer while en route to their bachelor and bachelorette parties in Las Vegas. They were slated to have married one another on July 27, 2017 in Key West, Florida.

According to witness reports, the 2010 Toyota Camry carrying the couple was seen riding alongside a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck at around 2:15 p.m. on July 7. Both cars were being driven in the eastbound direction on Route 58 at that time.

As the pair neared Kramer Junction, a tractor-trailer approached the two vehicles from the rear. The truck's operator failed to make any attempt to brake to accommodate for the traffic congestion that had built up ahead, striking the two cars in the process.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found the both members of the engaged couple in the back seat of the Camry in an unresponsive state. They were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The male victim leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter. It's unclear if the individuals in the front seat of the Camry or if the driver of the Tacoma suffered any injuries.

A press release by California Highway Patrol's Barstow office suggests that the trucker's failure to decrease his speed as he approached the slowed traffic ahead of him is to blame for the crash. They, however, continue to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed against the trucker at this time.

As for the families of the couple, they plan to move ahead and hold some type of ceremony to celebrate the couple's love on what was to have been their wedding day. They're comforted in knowing that the two will always be together for eternity as well.

If you've lost a family member in a tragic motor vehicle accident like this one, then you may be entitled to funeral expenses and other costs associated with his or her passing. An experienced San Bernardino car crash attorney can provide guidance as to the benefits of filing a wrongful death lawsuit.
