2 boaters die in back-to-back accidents in San Bernardino County

Two boating accidents in San Bernardino have claimed the lives of two different California residents during the past few weeks. In one accident on Saturday, Aug. 5, a 30-year-old Hemet woman drowned to death after her boat capsized in the Colorado River right outside of Parker. The following night, a man was killed when the boat he was riding in crashed with another on Lake Havasu.

The first of the two boating accidents this past weekend occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday according to the San Bernardino County's Sheriff's Department. The female victim was slated to take part a tubing trip that was scheduled to depart Big River Park. The motor of the boat that was to carry the woman out to the current failed and the woman's raft was quickly overcome by water, ultimately resulting in her drowning.

As for the other boat accident of the weekend in San Bernardino county, it happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. In that incident, a 25-foot Carrera boat collided with a 28-foot Eliminator. The 40 mph crash caused both boats' passengers to be ejected from each with the Elimintor's operator suffering fatal injuries at the scene.

With respect to the woman's death on Lake Havasu, it's one in a series of many deaths that have occurred on that same lake this summer. And with this most recent one, it's something that's gotten the lake's marine association president's attention.

He notes that he and law enforcement have found that too many people are out of the water with too little experience in boating safety and laws. They think this is, in part, to blame for the uptick in boating-related deaths.

Summer is one of the prime times of the year when boaters take to the waters to cool down and relax. If you suspect that death of someone you know was caused by another's negligence, then a San Bernardino County wrongful death attorney may be able to help you recover funeral expenses and lost future wages resulting from your loved one's untimely demise.
