A 55-year-old cyclist is struck, killed by 2 Redlands motorists

A 55-year-old man riding a moped was struck and killed by two motorists the evening of Saturday, July 29 in the Redlands. The fatal accident happened just before 10:30 p.m. as the San Bernardino man was riding along Alabama Street in the northbound direction. Soon after passing through the roadway's intersection with Pioneer Street, he was struck by the first motorist, followed soon thereafter by a second.

The first motorist that struck the man initially fled the scene of the crash. Within two hours, the 20-year-old driver appeared at the Redlands Police Department to report that he'd been involved in the crash.

In speaking with police, the Highlands resident informed them that he'd pulled his car over soon after the crash occurred. Officers later found his vehicle, a 2010 Suburu Impreza, parked in a lot not too far from where the accident had taken place.

While the moped's rider was lying in the middle of the road after initially being struck, he was struck by a second motorist. That driver, who had been driving southbound along Alabama Street at the time time, pulled over as soon as they struck the San Bernardino man.

In questioning witnesses that had seen the accident occur, investigators were able to determine that the first motorist had fled the crash scene long before the second motorist came in contact with the victim.

Paramedics arriving at the crash scene stabilized the man before attempting to transport him to Loma Linda University Medical Center. He succumbed to his injuries soon after arriving at the hospital.

As for the two motorist that struck the man, neither one has had any charges brought against them yet. Redlands Police notes that the investigation into what occurred is still ongoing.

In a case such as this, where there are two individuals that strike a victim, it may be possible to sue both for negligence. By discussing the specifics surrounding your particular case with a San Bernardino wrongful death attorney, he or she can advise you of your rights as it relates to filing a claim.
