California man killed in truck accident

A 50-year-old man was killed in a Sept. 19 crash involving two tractor-trailers that collided head-on. This Round Mountain accident also injured three people, authorities stated.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi-truck was traveling east on Highway 299 at approximately 12:30 a.m., when the driver attempted to negotiate an acute bend in the highway and consequently lost a container of used building materials from his flatbed trailer.

This cargo was ultimately strewn onto the westbound lane, where another semi-truck was approaching at highway speeds, according to officials. The westbound semi-truck was operated by the 50-year-old man and collided with the eastbound truck while trying to avoid the strewn cargo. As a result of the collision, the 50-year-old man suffered fatal injuries, authorities said.

A passenger in the second semi-truck as well as the two occupants of the first semi-truck suffered nonfatal injuries. Emergency crews transported them to a hospital, where they received treatment for their wreck-related injuries. While the cause of the crash was not immediately determined, impaired driving did not appear to be an issue, according to CHP.

Following the collision, the eastbound truck rolled onto its side while the westbound truck's load became dislodged. Furthermore, officials had to shut down the highway on account of a fuel spill connected to the crash.

Fatal accidents may leave bereaved families' lives in ruins. In some cases, a loved one's death not only imparts devastating end-of-life expenses on the family but also means an end to a main source of the family household's income. Thus, the pecuniary damages associated with the sudden and wrongful death of a family member can be overwhelming for some families. Yet, bereaved families may seek civil remedies for these pecuniary damages by filing a wrongful death claim against the parties at fault for the accident.
