Street racers crash into, seriously injure San Bernadino woman

A 62-year-old grandmother from Riverside is reportedly fighting for her life in a Loma Linda hospital after being struck by two alleged street racing motorists in San Bernardino on the evening of Saturday, September 2nd.

According to police, the woman had been riding in the rear seat of a vehicle as it was exiting the 215 Freeway that evening. As the car was being driven down the ramp, the rear of the vehicle was reportedly clipped by a vehicle. The collision's impact caused the car to spin. Soon thereafter, the vehicle was struck by a second vehicle. The force of that crash caused the car to roll over several times.

Police officers who arrived on the scene quickly began to investigate the crash. In speaking with witnesses, they were able to determine that both the first and second cars that struck the grandmother's vehicle were apparently drag racing one another prior to crashing into her.

The identity of the driver of the first vehicle to crash into the woman has yet to be identified. Police said that both the driver and passenger of the second vehicle suffered injuries themselves in the crash. They have since been released from the hospital. It's unclear if they'll face any criminal charges for their role in causing the crash.

As for the grandmother, she remains hospitalized with a broken neck, a severe head injury, and several internal injuries. Family members say doctors are unsure if the woman will be able to ever talk or walk again.

Although illegal in California, street racing claims countless lives each year. While oftentimes those injured or killed are the people racing, there are instances in which innocent individuals are affected as well. It's not uncommon for those hurt in drag racing accidents to suffer severe injuries, especially given the rate of speed at which these crashes generally occur.

If you've been seriously hurt after having been involved in such a crash, then a San Bernardino car accident attorney may be able to help you recover medical costs, lost wages and other expenses.
