1 pedestrian is killed, another injured in a Victorville crash

A motorist is alleged to have struck and killed one pedestrian and to have seriously injured a second one on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 28. The accident occurred just after 11:00 p.m., at the intersection of Amargosa Road and Hook Boulevard in Victorville, California.

Calls first started flooding in to San Bernardino County's emergency dispatch department at 11:02 p.m. Witnesses to the crash reported having seen two pedestrians walking together across Hook Boulevard shortly before before that. It was then that the driver of a gray Toyota, which had been traveling in an eastbound direction along that same roadway, collided with them.

By the time first responders arrived at the crash scene, one of those pedestrians had already expired. The other one was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. It's unclear how critically injured that individual may have been.

As for the Toyota Camry's driver, the individual remained at the scene following the crash. That individual was treated by the San Bernardino County Fire Department there at the accident scene before being released to go home.Investigators with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department in Victorville continue to investigate the crash. It's unclear if any charges will be filed against the Camry's driver for his or her role in causing this fatal crash.

There are a number of different factors that make pedestrians particularly vulnerable to being struck by drivers at night. Wearing dark clothing or walking in poorly lit areas at night can make it especially difficult for motorists to see pedestrians. It's, however, the responsibility of drivers to constantly scan the roadway for pedestrians, to yield to them when they're walking in crosswalks and to look twice before making turns.

If you've lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident, then a San Bernardino wrongful death attorney can advise you of legal avenues you can pursue to recover funeral and other costs in your case.
