An 18-year-old Fontana woman was killed after being struck by an SUV-driving South Gate woman the evening of Thursday, Jan. 11.
Dispatchers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) first started receiving calls reporting the crash, which occurred where both Arrow Route and Cherry Avenue intersect, just after 8:41 p.m. that day.
When San Bernardino County emergency responders arrived at the scene, they quickly located the critically wounded young woman in her mangled vehicle. She died soon after arriving at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center after having been transported there.
Once the woman was evacuated from the scene, CHP turned their attention to speaking with witnesses to the crash about what happened in the moments prior to it. They learned that the driver of the Nissan Pathfinder that struck the woman had been traveling westbound along Arrow at an accelerated rate of speed as she approached Cherry.
At that same time, the decedent, was driving her Toyota Corolla eastbound along Arrow. She apparently was in the process of turning left onto Cherry when the Nissan's driver crashed into her. The impact of the crash resulted in the Corolla being totaled.
The Pathfinder ended up rolling over, ultimately landing upside down on its roof. Its driver and her two minor passengers all suffered injuries as the SUV rolled over.
The CHP later determined that the Nissan's driver was likely drunk at the time of the crash. She was later placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
If you've lost a loved one in a crash at the hands of a drunk driver, then a San Bernardino wrongful death attorney can advise you of your right to file a lawsuit to recover funeral costs, future lost wages and more.
