5 injuries you might not realize you have after a car wreck

A car wreck can be a horrifying experience. In addition to physical injuries, it can greatly affect your emotions and your mental state. However, you might not even realize that you suffered any injuries in the car crash.

This might be because of the adrenaline that is pumping through your body or because you are more concerned with your passengers' injuries or even the damage to your car.

Here are five injuries that you might not realize you suffered in a car accident until days after:

  1. Whiplash: This is a common injury in car accidents, especially if someone's vehicle is hit from behind. The pain may not be noticeable immediately, but it can continue to worsen until medical treatment is needed.
  2. Back pain: Low back pain is reported in over half of rear-impact crashes and 75 percent of side-impact collisions. It could indicate injury to the nerves, ligaments or muscles in the back or even serious injury to the vertebrae.
  3. Numbness: You might experience the loss of sensation in your hands and arms. This could be a result of damage to your spinal column or neck. This is often associated with a whiplash injury as well.
  4. Headaches: This could be indicative of a serious injury, such as a concussion or a blood clot on the brain. Seek medical care if you experience headaches after a car crash.
  5. Abdominal swelling or pain: While you might not be aware of a potentially life-threatening injury, swelling and pain in your abdomen could indicate internal bleeding. This injury might not be discovered for hours or days after the crash.

If you are involved in a car wreck, it is highly advised that you seek medical care. Even if you do not feel like you are injured, it is a good idea to let the physicians determine that. After you have received medical treatment, then you can turn your attention to the cause of the accident and how you can seek compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages and more.
