A suspected Victorville man causes a fatal crash on Highway 395

A 26-year-old Victorville man was arrested and charged with drunk driving resulting in another motorist's death by the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department on Saturday, April 14. He's also facing child cruelty and vehicular manslaughter charges as well.

According to a spokesperson with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, witnesses to the fatal 11:19 p.m. crash reportedly saw the allegedly intoxicated driver run a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 395 and Seneca Road. It's then that the man's silver Honda apparently T-boned a blue Nissan traveling northbound along the highway.

Emergency crews responding to the crash found the two vehicles on a dirt shoulder nearby the intersection. Firefighters worked quickly to extricate both drivers from their vehicles. When they did, they found that the suspected drunk driver was critically wounded. He was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. As for the Nissan's driver, he was pronounced dead at the crash scene.

The child endangerment charges stem from the fact that a 3-year-old was also found in rear passenger seat of the suspected drunk driver's car. Emergency crews were able to recover the child from the crash scene. The child didn't appear to have suffered any injuries as a result of his or her involvement in the collision.

After his release from the hospital, officers took the alleged intoxicated driver into custody. He's currently being held at Rancho Cucamonga's West Valley Detention Center. It's unclear when the next hearing in the matter is scheduled for.

Innocent motorists die at the hands of drunk, drugged or distracted motorists far too often. When they are taken away from their families unnecessarily, they often leave them with expensive medical bills and funeral costs and lost future income potential. If your loved one has been killed by a negligent motorist, then a San Bernardino attorney can advise you of your rights to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
