Bus Accidents Archives

Obligations of a bus company in a crash

California residents who are injured in bus accidents may wonder who should be held responsible. Since a bus is an example of a vehicle known as a common carrier, it is held to a high standard of responsibility for its passengers. Any vehicle that is supposed to transfer people or goods for money is a common carrier. Tour buses, school buses and commercial buses are all designated as common carriers.

School bus accident statistics

Many California children travel to and from school on a bus operated by their local school district. While the vast majority of these young students complete their journeys safely, accidents can and do happen. The safety of school transportation has been assessed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and its findings were published in June 2015.

Lawsuit filed in connection with Amtrak derailment

Many California residents have likely seen the extensive news coverage of the Amtrak derailment that took place in Philadelphia on May 12. The accident left eight people dead and injured more than 200 others. A few of those who were injured were employees of the transportation company. Investigative efforts by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Philadelphia Police Department continue to determine the cause of the accident.

Tour bus driver might have been fatigued before fatal crash

A fatal bus accident in California may have been the result of fatigued driving, according to an initial investigation. The accident took place on Nov. 23 when a 67-year-old tour bus driver lost control along Interstate 5 near the Oregon border. After drifting off the right shoulder, the bus fell down an embankment and then flipped onto its roof.
