According to the California Highway Patrol, the chain-reaction accident occurred when the driver of a commercial box truck traveling westbound on Floral ignored a posted stop sign at the road's intersection with Elm and collided with a minivan.
A 28-year-old California woman has received a sentence of 15 years to life in prison for a fatal car accident that happened in 2011. The charges were second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter with intoxication and evading charges.

The accident reportedly occurred during rush-hour traffic in Irvine and resulted in three other people being treated for minor injuries at local hospitals. According to the Orange County Coroner's Office, the man who was killed was first treated for traumatic injuries at Western Medical Center before he was pronounced dead later that day.
